I was going to write a post on all the kinds of "jobs" a steampunk could get but have decided to do them one at a time. This way I can go into detail on each and you can choose what your theoretical steampunk job would be. The reason you would choose a job is so that if you go to a steampunk convention or gathering of some kind you would know what to dress up like.
The first job is a Plague Doctor which was a real job in the Victorian times. A plague doctor would go into a town with influenza or some kind of plague and see if they could help and if not drag the dead bodies out of town so no one else would become ill. Gory I know but it had to be done and if they didn't take action the whole town would be wiped out.
A plague doctor had a very specific wardrobe so that everyone could recognize him or her. They wore a long black cloak that covered them from head to the ground and sometimes a small leather hat. Perhaps there most prominent feature was the mask made of leather shaped like the head of a crow.

The crow represented death and loss and the people of these time thought when they saw a crow death was soon to follow.
